Buyer Information
When beginning the home buying process, it’s helpful to know what all goes into it. I’ve made a checklist to help make the process a little easier!
Before Contract
- Find the right lender and get preapproval with the right loan
- Conventional
- FHA
- USDA
- VA
- Find a good realtor
- Find the right home
- Get an accepted offer in contract
After Offer is Accepted
- Submit the earnest money
- Schedule any inspections — Whole house, Sewer, Pest, etc.
- If necessary, check for permitted building
- Wait for appraisal completion — this is ordered by the lender
- Wait for closing date to be set
- Transfer utilities
- Arrange for cash to close
- Attend closing & sign documents
- File for any tax exemptions with the county
*This checklist should act as a guide only. Actual timeline and steps may vary from buyer to buyer.
Advice for First-Time Buyers
The best first step in buying a home is to get pre-approved with a lender. This will help you to determine a budget you’re comfortable with and also help you plan for closing costs. Also, don’t be shy about asking your agent questions throughout the process!-Sarah Funk-Adkins
